The practice was highly commended by the Derby Civic Society for its schemes at Park Mews and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, being praised for imaginative, well finished and sympathetic schemes for each.

Due to continuing expansion, Matthew Montague Architects relocated to the Friar Gate Headquarters in Derby which provided space to grow and develop in the established professional historic quarter of the City. In 2002, the practice was awarded the Derby Civic Society “Brighter City of Derby Award” in recognition of significant improvement to Derby’s environment for the refurbishment of Derby Playhouse.

Matthew Montague began practising as a sole trader in 1994 concentrating mainly on small bespoke projects and interior work. The practice became fully established in 1998 when Matthew moved offices to Duffield and began to build his team. In 1999 the practice was awarded the Derby Civic Society “George Larkin Brighter City Award” for the best new build in Derby in recognition of the Lonsdale Travel Headquarters building which had been constructed during the preceding year.
