Best Individual New Dwelling 2012

The recently completed new house at Main Street, Ambaston received the award for "Best Individual Dwelling" at the 2012 LABC East Midlands Building Excellence Awards held at The Belfry Hotel, Nottingham on May 18th. The building will now be put forward to the LABC national awards, where it will compete against winners from the other LABC regions for a national prize.
In terms of specification, the building utilises the latest in alternative modern construction with high insulative values on all elements of the external fabric and the integration of "real payback" renewables such as ground source heat pumps and a mechanical ventilation & heat recovery system.
The project is one of a number of cutting edge schemes that the practice has been working on over the past couple of years in Derbyshire and around the world and is the first to be completed.

The Lionel Pickering Entrance, Pride Park Stadium, Derby

Derby County’s opening game of the 2009-10 season was marked as ‘Lionel Pickering Day’ and a replica of the entrance to the Baseball Ground has been sited close to the ticket office at Pride Park Stadium, named as ‘the Lionel Pickering Entrance’. It was built from original materials from Derby’s old stadium, where Mr Pickering watched the Rams from childhood. The entrance provides that deserved and lasting tribute to him and fans will remember his great contribution and Matthew Montague Architects is happy to be involved in preparing the planning and re-construction drawings for this project.

This resulted in a significant increase in housing provision for the borough of Amber Valley, proving that despite the proposal being contrary to local plan policy, a favourable outcome could be achieved that was to the benefit of the locality, the authority and most importantly, the client.
