The practice were invited by Nestle to enter an architectural design competition for the design of a new amenities building at their coffee production facility in Hatton, Derbyshire. Our competition  winning scheme consisted of a 30,000 sq ft extension to the existing Nescafe Dolce Gusto manufacturing plant providing offices, site canteen, training facilities for worldwide employees along with coffee tasting and testing.

The external appearance of the building uses a chameleon coloured cladding which depicts the life of a coffee bean and changes between green and brown depending on the angle of the sun.

Alongside the amenities building the practice was asked to design a security building / gatehouse where all visitors and delivery vehicle drivers would report to, sign in and receive the appropriate Health and Safety training before entering the site.

The design of the building reflects visually to that of the amenities building by using the chameleon cladding which changes between green and brown depending on the angle of the sun.
