PROJECT OVERVIEW
An L-shaped, high quality apartment scheme comprising thirty-five 2 bedroomed apartments over four floors. The development is primarily two four storey blocks creating a prominent statement building on the corner of St. Helens Street and St. Alkmunds Way, Derby.
The site was originally a series of low-rise traditional buildings of various ages, sizes and styles, all of which where demolished to make way for the new development. The apartments are constructed using traditional materials with local natural ashlar stonework in prominent places. In addition, the historic industrial heritage of the local area has been referenced by the form and colour of the window frames and other details, whilst the bold corner treatments celebrate the prominent nature of the site.
The previous boundary retaining wall was considered an important and distinctive feature of the site that was retained as part of the new development. It was re-faced in engineering quality brickwork, surmounted by metal railings, providing a strong visual anchor, as well as giving security and privacy to the residents.
The apartments have bought new life and vitality to the area and will provide a lasting legacy to a prominent city centre site.
