Successful change of use from B1/D2 to Sui Generis for Grade II Listed Bakehouse

Matthew Montague Architects have recently secured planning permission for change of use for the Bakehouse which is part of the Darley Abbey Stables complex into a Beauty, Skincare and Aesthetics Salon. The buildings that comprise Darley Abbey Stables; were brought back into use in 2015 after many years of decay, the courtyard is currently home to a range of businesses all of which have an emphasis on health and well-being.


Initial consultation between the property owners and Derby City Council Planning Authority established that the proposed Beauty Therapy use-class is treated as Sui Generis. The successful planning approval allows The House of Beauty the opportunity to consolidate and maximise their business potential.


House of Beauty proprietor Sarah Clowes said “Thanks to Matthew Montague I have been able to acquire the perfect premises for House of Beauty Skincare & Aesthetics. His expertise, knowledge and working relationship with DCC ensured that my Application for Change of Use was dealt with expeditiously and smoothly. We are now excited to move to Darley Abbey to open our new clinic to continue growing the business and provide services to the wider community”.


House of Beauty which is currently based in Mickleover will relocate to the Bakehouse, Abbey Yard, Darley Abbey in Summer 2018.
