Historic Duncombe House to Undergo Major Renovation.

Duncombe House, a Grade II Listed Building located in Ellastone, Staffordshire, is set to receive a new lease of life. Matthew Montague Architects will be working with the owners, Jack and Jazzy, to extend, alter, and renovate the historic property and outbuildings.

A Glimpse into Duncombe House’s Rich History

Positioned within Calwich Park, Duncombe House is a quintessential example of mid-19th-century estate architecture. The house was constructed from ashlar with a slate roof. Noteworthy features include its gabled outer bays with decorative balustraded arches, angled bay windows with round-arched plate glass sashes, and a central gabled porch with an open basket arch.

Research indicates that the dwelling was constructed by Augustus Duncombe between 1844 and 1876, potentially designed by renowned architect William Burn. This construction was part of Augustus Duncombe's extensive efforts to improve the estate, reflecting significant historical and architectural value.

Future Plans and Renovations

The new owners have embarked on a journey to restore and enhance this historic property. Matthew Montague Architects are thrilled to be assisting in designing the extensions, alterations, and conversions of the outbuildings. These efforts aim to preserve the historical essence of Duncombe House while adapting it to contemporary living standards.

The planned changes will not only restore Duncombe House but also enhance its functionality and appeal for future generations.

The renovation of Duncombe House marks an exciting chapter in the history of this distinguished estate, blending historical preservation with modern innovation.
