Planning Permission Received to Transform Shedley Manor!
Matthew Montague Architects are delighted to announce that they have received planning permission to transform Shedley Manor situated on the edge of Yeavely, near Ashbourne, it is a renowened property with a well-documented, colourful history.
The house was once the home of bankrupt businessman Alan Yeomans, who was jailed for 6 and a half years for drugs and money laundering offences in 2016.
He infamously built the property that was disguised as a farm shed without the required planning permissions and cheekily named it Shedley Manor. In 2007 the property was issued a certificate of lawfulness. From the road the house presents as a corrugated green, agricultural barn, resulting in an interesting internal layout with some of the rooms not having windows.
When Yeomans was sentenced to jail the property was sold at auction and Matthew Montague Architects secured planning permission for a replacement dwelling for the new owners. The then owners renamed the house Carr Wood House but decided to sell the property in 2022 rather than go ahead with the replacement dwelling.
The current owners decided to embrace the house’s past and changed the name back to Shedley Manor.
The photographs below from 2020 show that significant work is required to make a considerable proportion of the house habitable and update the external appearance of the house so it is attractive in its surroundings and indeed adopts the identify of a house, rather than the confused vision it currently presents.
As the dwelling was disguised for many years the entrance was hidden, the approved designs have created a new entrance, porch and a double storey bay has been added to create a welcoming frontage to the house. The house has been remodelled inside and new windows and bi-folding doors have been added.
A huge plus of this property is it’s larger than average grounds, its superb sweeping driveway and stunning countryside views. When the renovations are complete it will be; Shedley Manor; luxury family home.
